Introduction
The African Unconquered Foundation (AUF) is committed to supporting veterans, service members, and their families through programmes that promote rehabilitation, reintegration, and overall well-being. The nature of these programmes involves direct engagement with individuals who may have experienced physical, emotional, or psychological challenges.
AUF recognises that safeguarding the welfare of its beneficiaries, staff, volunteers, and partners is a fundamental responsibility. The Foundation is therefore committed to creating and maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment in all its activities.
This Safeguarding, Mental Health & Duty of Care Policy outlines, in clear and simple terms, AUF’s commitment to protecting individuals from harm, supporting mental well-being, and ensuring that all engagements are conducted with care and responsibility. In line with this, the Foundation is committed to supporting the mental health and psychosocial well-being through its programmes and interactions. Which includes providing access to appropriate support services, promoting awareness, and ensuring that engagements are conducted in a sensitive and respectful manner.
All staff and volunteers are hereby expected to approach all interactions with empathy, understanding, and respect for the experiences of all its beneficiaries.

The duty of care extends to planning, implementing, and monitoring programmes to ensure that risks are identified and managed effectively. It also includes ensuring that individuals are not exposed to unnecessary harm or distress as a result of the Foundation’s activities.
Reporting and Response
AUF encourages the prompt reporting of any safeguarding concerns, incidents, or risks. All reports are taken seriously and handled in a confidential and responsible manner.
The Foundation is committed to responding to safeguarding concerns appropriately, including taking necessary actions to protect individuals and prevent recurrence. Where required, matters may be escalated to relevant authorities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Training and Awareness
AUF is committed to ensuring that all staff and volunteers are aware of their safeguarding responsibilities. Training and guidance are provided where necessary to ensure that individuals understand how to identify risks, respond to concerns, and uphold the standards set out in this policy.
